On January 2, 2025, I had the pleasure of meeting with the beneficiaries of the Shwapno Chaka project, a transformative initiative by ACT Foundation aimed at improving the lives of marginalized communities in Bangladesh through sustainable transportation solutions. The impact of this project over the past six months has been nothing short of remarkable, with 15 beneficiaries collectively earning around 1.5 million Taka. This substantial income boost reflects the project’s success in creating viable livelihood options for its participants.
However, sustaining such a project comes with its challenges, notably the longevity of the electric rickshaws’ batteries. To date, six beneficiaries have needed battery replacements, a cost that has been managed by adjusting the savings contributions of the beneficiaries. These individuals save 150 Taka daily, five days a week, which not only supports operational costs but also builds a safety net for future needs.

Looking ahead to 2025, our ambition is to expand this initiative significantly. We plan to distribute 50 more electric rickshaws to further empower the underserved populations across the country. As part of this vision, we hosted board members from the Sanabil Foundation on January 2nd, providing them an opportunity to engage directly with the project’s beneficiaries and witness the profound impact firsthand.
The future of Shwapno Chaka looks promising as we envision it evolving into a robust business model. One of our strategic goals for the near future is to establish a cooperative society among the beneficiaries. This cooperative will serve as a platform for members to contribute to their collective development and provide mutual support in times of need.

ACT Foundation is committed to making Shwapno Chaka a self-sustaining success story. Through innovative approaches and continuous support, we are not just providing means of transportation but are actively participating in the socio-economic upliftment of our beneficiaries. This initiative is more than just a project; it’s a stepping stone towards a brighter, more inclusive future where every contribution sparks positive change.
