In the last 30 days, I was looking around to find a vibrant successful story of our Micro Small Medium Entrepreneurs (MSMEs). After office and on my weekends, I’ve visited the local market. I spoke to the local retailers. I have found a few stories but, I’m really excited to share something about our very HOME-GROWN TOY STORY industry here!
There are certain objects that bring us instant joy, fill our mundane lives with delight. Toy is one of those. The sight of colourful toys put a smile on our faces, bring out the playfulness that has taken a back seat as we wander the avenue of life.
Statistically, the size of Bangladesh’s domestic toy industry is Tk. 10,000 crore yearly; 90% of it used to be dominated by Chinese imports; local manufacturers took this challenge head-on and brought it down to a mere Tk 2000 crore. Our MSMEs are deserving a big hand for their tremendous success in this industry.

Having popularity in the domestic market, Bangladeshi toys are already been famous all over Europe and the North America Market. Over the years, the quality of locally manufactured toys has improved exponentially, which allowed retailers and wholesalers to put more faith in our MSMEs. As the industry matures, dependency on imported toys has been declined rapidly; manufacturers are expecting the domestic toy market become self-sufficient within the next 4-5 years.
